Great Friends are the Key to Great Health

3206796_blog.jpgI can’t imagine life without my dear friends who are my support network, cheering squad and a constant source of laughs.  And you know what? The friends we have, that we cherish and enjoy spending time with, are a key componenet of creating a healthy life.  Study after study has found that people with at least several close friends are less likely to die from heart disease or suffer from depression.

And to be honest with you, it’s not about quantity of friends – this is all about quantity.

These days I find it difficult to get together with all the friends in my life that I care about.  We’re all so busy between work, family, children and taking care of the everyday tasks in life.  But that doesn’t stop me from connecting with my closest friends, even if for only a few minutes by phone. Just yesterday I phoned by oldest and dearest friend Alyson, just for a moments, in the middle of the day, to quickly connect.

Take a look at this week’s video about why friends are so important and a little celebration with my close friends I recently attended.

What about you, how do you stay connected to your friends and how does it support better health?

  1. Hey Wendy,
I kind of winged the veggie burgers. I pureed 1 cup black beans with 1/3 cup beets and then added 1 TBSP BBQ sauce, 1 TBSP maple syrup, 1 tsp. dijon mustard, 1 tsp cocoa powder, 1 tsp onion powder, and 1/4 tsp garlic powder. I then added 2 cups of rolled oats and allowed the mixture to soak overnight in the fridge. This morning, I formed them into patties using 1/3 cup portions and baked in a 350 degree oven for 35 minutes. Flipped and baked another 15 minutes. Kind of dry, but a great blend of flavors. Enjoy.

PS – I like your blog!
