Messy Refrigerator? It Speaks Volumes About Your Health

refrigerator_2.jpgIf your refrigerator is a disaster, your health may not be that far behind. In fact, the state of your refrigerator has everything to do with how well you’re taking care of yourself.

It wasn’t that long ago when my refrigerator was consistently a mess – old condiments, food that had spoiled, veggies that had liquefied — you get the picture. And it said everything about how I wasn’t taking care of myself. I basically let things go and was so busy with my clients and the rest of my life, that I was ignoring one of the foundations for consistent good health.

The truth of the matter is that our refrigerator is a reflection of our life. When we make the time to keep it clean, buy fresh food, reduce waste, clean up spills right away and the like, we set the stage for better, even optimal, health.

So even though I do a pretty good job of keeping it clean these days, during the last month or so, in the midst of the holidays, I definitely let things go. So after I planned some simple and healthy meals over the weekend and went to the store to stock up, I spent some quality time cleaning out the refrigerator. And you know what? It was downright liberating!  It’s a pleasure (and a lot less anxiety producing) to look into a spotless refrigerator. In essence, I took care of me and made it a priority.  Doesn’t all that healthy food deserve a clean space?

What about you, how clean is your refrigerator? And what are you going to do make it a priority to clean it up and keep it that way?

  1. Wendy-

I just cleaned out my fridge this week. It was making me feel unhealthy!

  2. Good for you Karen! Isn’t it totally liberating to do it? Now that I’ve gone my back in top shape, I feel proud to know what I actually have in there and to be using it up and not wasting.

    Keep up that great work!
