The Healing Power of Ginger

ginger_root_ground_lg.jpgBack in the day, when I heard ginger, ale what was right behind it.

Mom would pour a big glass, usually served with dry toast, after an unfortunate bout of the stomach flu.  And that was pretty much the extent of my exposure to ginger at the time.

Fast forward many years later and now I just love the taste of fresh ginger in all its many varieties – minced in stir fries, pickled with sushi or sliced for homemade ginger tea.  It’s got both a nice kick and a fresh flavor. But ask my husband Bruce and he swears his mouth is on fire with just the tiniest of bites (what can I say, he can’t take the heat.) :)

But beyond the taste, ginger has fantastic healing properties and naturally supports a healthy lifestyle.  You probably have heard that it’s great for stomach upset and can beat the pants off Pepto-Bismol any day. But that’s just the beginning. Ginger is terrific for a myriad of conditions and it’s super easy to integrate into your routine.

And you know what else?  Ginger has warming qualities, so as the weather cools down it’s a natural way to warm your body up.  That’s probably one of the biggest pluses for me because I just can’t stand the cold.

Want the whole story on why ginger is so great?  Take a listen to this week’s audio tip and you’ll hear about all its benefits and some super simple ways you can use it.

  1. Hi Wendy,

I am so glad to see your post on ginger. I swear by this stuff whenever I have a stomach upset. In addition to the plain ole stuff, I’ve felt better even by drinking Ginger tea or Reed’s Ginger Beer.

I actually wrote about another household remedy for stomach upsets on blog yesterday. It is a seed/spice called ajwain, that I grew up using.
