Meal Planning Tip: Buy the Trader Joe’s Cookbook

trader-joes-cookbook.jpgMany of you know that I’m mad about Trader Joe’s. I love the selection they have, I love the prices and I especially love that the staff bend over backwards to help you. It’s truly refreshing in this age of poor customer service, not to mention that it makes shopping fun.

But did you also know that there’s a cookbook? “Cooking with All Things Trader Joe’s” is a handy, dandy cookbook by Deana Gunn and Wona Miniati. They basically take items you find at TJ’s and marry them with other ingredients for some quick and simple meals.

I came across the cookbook last night at my friend Karen’s house in Detroit. I’m staying with Karen for a few days while I’m here to do some speaking engagements. As I flipped through the book, I saw some tasty looking recipes that look pretty simple. One of the ones that caught my eye — Chipotle Turkey Chili. I’m all for simple, quick and healthy meals and this one stood out because you can make the whole thing in about 25 minutes, that’s something that always makes me happy.  Mediterranean Lentil Salad also sounds good, using on of my favorite Trader Joe’s staples, their refrigerated steamed lentils.

I’m definitely going to have to pick up a copy of the book and think it’s worth the 29.95 price tag although I’m sure it can be found cheaper on Amazon. There are numerous recipes that are healthy and can make meal planning simple – what’s better than being able to get all the ingredients you need in one place?

Have you seen or tried the cookbook? What are your thoughts about it and what’s your favorite recipe?
