10,000 Steps or Bust!
Do you know how many steps you walk in a day? Most of you probably know that it’s recommended that we walk 10,0000 steps in a day. Are you anywhere in the ballpark?
I’ll be the first to tell you that unless I make a plan in the beginning of the day to get into action if often doesn’t happen. Why? Because I spend the bulk of most days behind a computer or on the phone. I bought a pedometer several months ago, and just taking that simple action has increased my awareness immensely…but that’s really not enough! It’s all about getting into action. This week I’ve taken advantage of our 50-60 degree days and gotten outside for some great walks. When I combine my workouts at the gym with house cleaning, running errands and going to appointments, it’s not so hard to hit the 10,000 step target.
How are you doing with your steps and what helps you increase your walking? Share your thoughts with us!

Bravo Wendy, excellent tip but I was wondering if walking backwards 5,000 steps a day was the equivalent of 10,000 steps forward?
Thanks.
Hey Ken,
Good question. I think whether or not 5000 steps backwards equals 10,000 steps forward all depends upon the level of exertion or effort. I have actually walked around a track backwards for one full lap and it sure felt like I exerted much more energy than walking normally. I probably could have only gone two maybe three laps total in that way compared to endless laps walking forward.
When walking backwards, you emphasize your three hamstring muscles instead of the four quadricep muscles when walking forward.
I’d be curious to know your experience when walking backwards.
Wendy
